What you need to know about shampooing and conditioning

Two of the most important steps in maintaining healthy hair include shampooing and conditioning hair accurately.  Shampoo plays the role of removing the dirt and grease of the hair while the conditioner will help retain the moisture of the hair making it soft and strong.  Therefore, you need to pick a good shampoo and conditioner. It is also important to know how the products must to be used for better results. Firstly, you need to do your own research. You need to pick the right shampoo and conditioner that suits your hair type. Read labels thoroughly and get advice from professionals in the field. There are different types of shampoos and conditioners available for different types of hair such as oily, dry, combination, colored and even damaged. Keep in mind that the most expensive brand available on the supermarket shelf may not always be the one that suits you. So compare and examine the ingredients used before investing too much. When selecting the right conditioner keep in mind that it’s quite different from selecting the right shampoo. This is mainly because it offers various options. You will find rinse out conditioners, leave on conditioners and even deep conditioners. For example, dry hair will require a moisturizing conditioner which is relatively heavier than most others. Before using any shampoo or conditioner brush the hair well. It will help the shampoo and conditioner reach each and every hair shaft easily. This will also help prevent the hair from tangling while you are shampooing and conditioning your hair. Wet the scalp and hair well and then pour a sufficient amount of shampoo in to your palms and rub them well together. Make sure you massage the shampoo on to the scalp. Apply the shampoo well towards the end of the hair and run your fingers through it thoroughly. Rinse the hair well until all the shampoo is removed. Then pour just a bit of conditioner to your palms and start applying upwards slowly moving towards the scalp. Do not wash it off immediately; leave it for at least 5 minutes.  Once the conditioner is thoroughly rinsed off dry your hair and it’s good to go.
